News From The Tigers Lair
(AFLQ - 10 August 2008) SHARKS OVERRUN BRAVE TIGERS
The Tigers showed plenty of heart to kick the first four goals of the game and lead by six points at the long break, but conceded 10 goals to one after halftime to lose 17.15 (117)-10.9 (69).
Labrador Beat Morningside In A Thriller
Trent Knobel kicked his fifth goal in the dying moments. "He was massive," said coach Byron Donnellan of Knobel. "But we had Nathan Gurciullo keeping Kent Abey to only three goals, we had Mark Reilly shut down David Lillico and we had Rusty Alleway do the same on Jarrod Price."
Kick Around Australia Day
Thursday, August 7 will mark 150 years since the first recorded game of Australian Football was played. Businesses across Australia are invited to join in the celebrations by offering employees the opportunity to stop work and have a kick of the footy on August 7 or wear their footy scarf to work.
Welcome Back Shane Burn
Today we welcome the return of defender Shane Burn. One of the bravest Tigers of all time, Shane has made it back after a wretched run with injuries and illness. He has had a total knee reconstruction, is in remission from leukaemia and recently had several melanomas removed from his back. "But let me tell you he is not in our side on sympathy, he has earned his spot," said Labrador coach Byron Donnellan.
(AFLQ - 13 July 2008) REDLAND ARE ROAD KILL FOR TIGERS
Redland began the game with plenty of spark and they paid a dear price for wasting opportunities in the opening term when they managed 4.6-4.1. Labrador torched them with a 8.5-1.3 second term, which effectively killed the game and the Bombers spirit.
Aaron Shattock’s 6 Goals send Labrador the right way on the ladder
Labrador went the right way on the ladder, easing their wooden-spoon worries with a comfortable win over Redland at Cooke-Murphy Oval.
Riding on the back of a six-goal haul from skipper Aaron Shattock and a masterful midfield display from Matt Dillon, the Tigers won 19-15 (129) to 8-11 (59).
(AFLQ - Sat 12 July) LABRADOR v REDLAND
An enormous amount has changed since Redland last ventured to Labrador in Round 1, when they were spanked by 95 points by a Tigers outfit most expected to contest the premiership. Labrador have won just once since, seen the departure of several big name players, and suffered a number of big collapses. The Bombers rebounded to win three of their next seven games, before injuries to key players kicked in and they dropped their next five in a row by big margins. What we are left with is the battle to avoid the wooden spoon, with a Redland victory almost certainly assuring the Bombers of passing on the unwanted piece of woodwork to the Tigers after having it locked away at Victoria Point for the last three years.
(AFLQ - Sunday 6th July 2008) Cats Beat Tigers
Labrador trailed Broadbeach by just two points at half-time, but had no winners after the long break. Josh Woods and Michael Doyle are two Tigers who have refused to raise the white flag in recent weeks and they both tried desperately hard again today.
(AFLQ - Sunday 29 June 2008) WHITE SHINES FOR VULTURES
Ageless veteran Darryl White continues to enjoy the best of his three seasons in the AFLQ State League with another outstanding display against Labrador yesterday. Labrador was valiant for three quarters, trailing by two, 17 and 23 points at the first three breaks, before being steamrolled by a nine-goal-to-one final term. Labrador welcomed back Trent Knobel and he produced a dominant display in the ruck, giving his small men like Todd Featherstone plenty of opportunities at ground level. Aaron Shattock has been a threat since being used more in the forward line.
(AFLQ - June 22nd 2008) SHARKS SMASH TIGERS
The Tigers led entering time-on of the first term before the Sharks nailed the last two goals of the quarter, then the Sharks blasted 22.16-3.4 after quarter-time.
